Plank Light, 156 years old and still going
These plank lights are made from wood salvaged in Gateshead and is the oldest piece I have made.
Once church doors that date back to 1862, I was lucky enough to be able to salvage them (provided I removed the iron work and return it to the proprietors) in 2016 and have made a number of LED plank lights from them.
The wood has been stripped back - removing decades of different colour paints, hand cut, and assembled, before being finished with a dark wax to protect the material. Please note that the ‘holes’ where the ironwork once was have been left in the piece.
All Handmade Tyneside products are handmade entirely from reclaimed or salvaged wood, using traditional carpentry and wood-shop techniques. This means each item is unique and therefore products may vary slightly, to those shown.
